day...hmm i lost count.

hey there.
So yesterday we made our way from the Cinquo Terre to Orvieto, a medium-sized hill town in central italy, just an hour north of rome on the train.
It's quite a change from the mediterranean sightseeing, but beautiful in its own way. we took a tour this morning that took us underground to caves used by the first inhabitants of the city over 2500 years ago. It was very interesting.
We're staying in a quaint little bed and breakfast situated on one of the main cobblestone streets, and we're just enjoying the small town atmosphere before we head out for 5 nights in (big and scary) Rome. we're actually only planning to spend 2 whole days in the city, the other's we'll use for day trips to Pisa and elsewhere.
I'm just coming out of a little bout with a flu bug, sent me into quite a high fever for most of the night last night. i'm blaming it on not enough rest, water, or nutrition. It's so easy to live off Gelato and Pizza in this country, but our bad choices are catching up to me! More fruit, less ice cream is a law im now sticking to:)
Thanks for the comments and emails, keep them coming:) it's funny how one can feel lonely while surrounded by so many people. Your communication is appreciated:)
love to all,
-kait

Hi all - tks Amanda - yes I did mean the Basilica - I guess you can walk up (300+ steps) and there's also some interesting stuff on the floors below - tombs, etc.
I see there's a savings card called a 'Roma Pass' (looks legit) @ www.pierreci.it - it costs $18E but the first two sites you see are free and the rest are reduced and it also offers free transportation in the city itself for 3 days.
Kait - hope you get better soon...
The rest - hope you don't catch what Kait has...

Jo Kait, Chels, jonny and jordan.
Sorry to hear you got sick Kait, hopefully it passes soon. You guys need to buy some rose hips when you get to Rome. They're dried and easy to pop in a cup to make tea.
Also when you can, buy a little jar of honey and put these things in it. A few peeled cloves of garlic, a sprig of rosemary and a sprig or thyme. All should be easy to locate in italy. Poke everything in the honey and let it sit for a week or so until the garlic starts to become opaque. It'll keep colds away, people, and sore throats and any chesty stuff to. It's an overall tonic...just take a teaspoon every day. The first days the worst!
So where are you guys after Italy? Are you going to make it to Scotland and England? If you do and castle hop, Jo find me a nice one that needs princessing.
You guys must really be having a blast. It's nice to see ALL of you in some shots, and I like the hairstyles too.
Not much is new here, today in Calgary it's cool and cloudy and it's supposed to rain.. uugggh, which means no motorbike rides:(
Rome is going to be cool. I have friends who lived there for a few years and they said it's really embracing.
So while in Rome remember to do as they do and have a lot of fun. Enjoy the people and the atmosphere and keep the updates coming and pics too.
XOXOXOXO and one more X.

We hope the flu bug didn't interfere with your Thanksgiving. If so, remember the Americans have another one coming up soon (you guys are entitled to both.) Is there anything equivalent to Thanksgiving in Italy? We were taught that the Pilgrims invented it, but it may be catching on. We are enjoying catching up to and following your odyssey. Thanks for the lovely postcard from Salzburg. We pray for good health for all of you.
